Try the character counter

The counter measures visible grapheme clusters, whitespace-separated words, punctuation-based sentences, and non-empty paragraphs. Platform limits can use different technical rules.

Spaces count. Joined emoji and letters with combining marks count as one visible character when the browser supports grapheme segmentation.

What each number means

A useful count starts with a clear definition. This tool reports four different measurements instead of presenting one total as a universal platform limit.

Characters are grapheme clusters

A family emoji, a flag, or a letter plus a combining accent is counted as one visible unit when Intl.Segmenter is available. Spaces and line breaks also contribute to the total.

Words use whitespace

Any non-empty run separated by spaces, tabs, or line breaks counts as a word. Hyphenated terms remain one word, while languages that do not separate words with spaces need a specialized tokenizer.

Sentences and paragraphs are estimates

Sentence totals use common full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks. Paragraphs are non-empty blocks separated by line breaks, so headings and list items may count as paragraphs.

Why a platform may show another total

Services can count UTF-16 code units, Unicode code points, bytes, links, or reserved characters. Use this result while drafting, then verify the final text in the exact publishing field when a hard limit matters.

A practical limit-checking routine

  • Confirm whether the requirement says characters, words, bytes, or a platform-specific limit.
  • Paste the final version into the destination because links, line breaks, and normalization can change its count.
  • Leave a small margin below strict limits so later edits or tracking parameters do not invalidate the copy.

Can I use it offline or on mobile?
