Style names without making a server harder to use
Unicode text can give a display name, role or channel label a distinct look. It does not change Discord's actual typeface, and highly decorated characters can make mentions, search and moderation slower.
Match the style to the surface
Bold, small caps and monospace are practical for display names and short channel labels. Fraktur, glitch and symbol-heavy results work better as occasional headings than as everyday conversation.
Plan for search and moderation
A decorative username may not match what someone types with a normal keyboard. Keep role names and safety channels readable, and retain a plain version of important names in descriptions or nicknames.
Do not confuse styling with message formatting
Unicode substitutions remain part of the copied text, while Discord's editor formatting changes how ordinary text is presented in that message. Use editor formatting for paragraphs and code, and Unicode for a short label only when the persistent characters are intentional.
Avoid stacked combining effects
Glitch and underline generators attach marks to each base character. Multiple marks can overlap neighboring messages, interfere with selection, and create noisy notifications. Keep those effects out of rules, tickets, logs, and names that moderators must type.
Make renames reversible
Before changing a shared role or channel, record its plain name and test the styled candidate with mentions, copy and paste, and the server search. A reversible change is especially important when several characters look alike or a moderator must reproduce the name from another device.
